Marvelously Mad Fitness - Yoga

On same schedule as last week - thankfully it is working - I'm down 6lbs!! WOOT!

The one thing I am most grateful for "finding" and practicing on a regular basis is Yoga. Before, I was never into it. I think I tried it years (and years) ago and came away with the impression that it was just a little too weird for me. But I tried it again (this time a different type of yoga) and was really surprised how much it helped relieve pain in my back (a constant since childhood) and how hard it really was (you really develop great looking muscles doing yoga). So I decided to take some classes and I was hooked! LOVE it!

Now, I have a number of different DVDs - Rodney Yee is great for beginners. Denise Austin is also good to transition into it. When you practice yoga on a regular schedule you will be so surprised how your body changes and becomes stronger. The stronger it becomes the more possible it becomes to do the more difficult poses. This is so encouraging and, I think, the addictive part. It is empowering, soothing, strengthening, relaxing, restoring. It makes you more aware of your body and your world. It is not a religion - although I do tend to reflect on my religious views when I am doing it - thanking God for this wonderful gift of Yoga in my life, thankful that it is helping me find some relief from pain.

Satisfying Organization - Little Annoying Piles

Do you have little piles of stuff hanging around your house? I do, and they drive me CRAZY! Like here:

And here:

And here!

UGGHHH! So this week my main goal is to get rid of them - move them to where they are supposed to be, sort them out, find them a home! It's one thing to just tidy a room - I can handle to everyday chores, but clutter really bothers me. It just sits at the back of your sub-consciousness and whistles - and you know how annoying it is when someone else is whistling. Right?
So I'm going to start with the annoying-whistling piles of clutter and get this house organized!

Sensational Lake House - Painting

Finally got the paint we needed to paint our lake place. Painted it the only way we know how - in 100 degree weather on Sunday afternoon in one hit! The color I got was a lot lighter than the previous color we painted it, but we like it a whole lot better - looks nice and clean. I think it would look great with white shutters - will have to try to convince the hubby! We also painted over the (horrible) brown trim - looks so much better all the one color - why highlight the ugly features when you don't really have to!?? Finally have some pictures too:

BEFORE:
(Unable to find a before photo at press time - will try to for another post).

AFTER:

So we have now completed two major tasks - staining the deck and repainting the house. What's up next you ask? Well, unfortunately we need to get rid of one, maybe two trees that are right next to the trailer - we are so worried they are going to come down on us that we prefer to have them gone for peace of mind. Hate to get rid of these beautiful trees, but they would kill us if they came down, and we have two baby girls to take into consideration too! Safety first!

Simply Sewing - Dress for a Wedding

I found a cute little dress for my youngest in a local consignment store - great price and perfect for an upcoming wedding we are attending. Unfortunately, they didn't have anything matching or even close for my 5yr old, so I thought I would just make something in a similar pink.

This is the dress I bought from the consignment store:

The only change I made was to add some little green flowers to either side of the pink flower.

Off to the fabric store I go (Joann's) and lo-and-behold I stumble (literally) over the same fabric. It was lying out in one of the aisles - F.A.T.E. I tell you! So now I get to make a similar style dress and they will match = one happy mama!

I'm using Simplicity New Look Pattern #6577, View D (which is the one on the bottom row, on the left):

I am making the skirt a little longer, which is really easy to do on this pattern as the skirt is basically just a rectangle. I added 3.5 inches to the bottom hemline.

Here is the dress I made:

Soul-soothing Books (and some movies) - Summer Reading

I love to read and wish I had more time to do it. I try to carve out a little time for me in the evenings to read - sometimes it happens, most of the time, unfortunately not. But with summer now here I'm going to put a little more effort into making the time - every time I do it I love it and resolve to read more. So I have a list of books to read this summer, some fun ones too, I hope (saving them for the beach).

Saving CeeCee Honeycutt by Beth Hoffman

Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen

The Help by Kathryn Stockett

The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night by Mark Haddon

Vanity Fair by William Makepeace Thackeray

The Wildwater Walking Club by Claire Cook

Went to Half Price Books today to see what I could pick up a little cheaper :) Found some on my list yeah!) and a few wild cards:

From my list I got:
Vanity Fair
The Woman in White
Saving CeeCee Honeycutt

My Wild Cards:
* The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows (this comes highly recommended by both my sisters-in-law, so must be good)
* Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabriel Garcia Marquez
* Mennonite in a Little Black Dress by Rhonda Janzen
* Summer at Tiffany by Marjorie Hart (the Tiffany blue on the cover got my attention LOL!)
* Ulysses by James Joyce (on my long list forever - finally got around to buying it)

So excited now to start reading - MUST.GO.TO.BED.EARLIER (so I can read - hehehe!)

Also at Half Price Books I picked up a couple of movies - 2 for me and 1 for the kids. I LOVE My Fair Lady, so just wanted it to keep. Bought The Women - not sure if I have seen this - it is ringing a bell, but, oh well, got it anyway - it was only $3. My Fair Lady was $0.98 - but it is a VHS (yes, we still have our VHS player - I stock up on VHS movies from Goodwill for $1 each for the kids - you can not beat that!). And also got Black Beauty ($0.98) - this has been on the kids' list for some time, so I'm glad I found it.

Looks like I have a busy summer ahead - can't wait!!!!

I think it has to do something with summer and my longing for the beach!

Fantastic Photography - Mom & Kids and 30 Day Photo Fun

Some beautiful photography inspiration via pinterest for Mom & Kid shots:

And some great inspiration for taking your own photos - a 30 day plan to get you motivated/started. I know we missed the June 1st start date but I think I might do this (start July 1), and post my results next week, and so forth for 30 days (or 4 weeks worth of blogs). You can join up with their link-up party too - just click on this here link to go to their website.
